I've had my merrells for about 2 years now. Recently I coupled them with first ascent gaiters and enjoyed river crossings without getting my feet wet. They do get dry quick though after a day of sweat... highly recommend

As a lady with big feet it is somewhat of a challenge to get proper woman's hiking shoes in a size 8 and I therefore have to opt for men's boots. So bulky and heavy is something I have gotten used to. Recently I swopped my trusty superglue Wolverines for a pair of V-Lite Altitude Pro Lite RGS Waterproofs with Dri-Tec, V-Lite, Vibram®, Vibram® RollinGait System technologies (although, what this all means is still a bit of a mystery).

I have only done a short weekend hike with them thus far so I haven't really put them through any abuse (yet) but so far I am really impressed with how lightweight and comfy they are, weighing in at just 500g. They fit snugly and kept my feet dry, which is a nice change. Will definitely have to put them through their paces to see whether the price tag is justified.

Some advice please.

I have an awesome pair of Salomon leather and Goretex boots. The Salomon website recommends treatment with a product like Nikwax. How often should this be done, after every hike?

Thanks..

Personally I would do it after every hike, but this would also depend on the wear and tear on the boot.... For instance if I do a short twenty km hike that doesn't require walking through mud or anything similarly dirty or sticky, I would probably wait until the end of the next hike... But I would definitely for anything above 30 km.... Another factor to take into account is how long or important your next hike is.... For example if I do a 20 km and I have something like a gt planned, I would clean and maintain all my gear even if the distance or wear is low... Hope you found this helpful :cheer:

I missed out weather... Whether I properly apply nikwax (or which ever solution you use) would depend on the toll the weather takes on the boot. :)

I've had a pair for a couple of months now, done about three big hikes in them and had no problems at all. Very comfortable, aren't showing any 'damage' and they handled a few wet patches well. I haven't really tested them in much water, just a few wet boulders and wet grass.

I have a pair of Merrell Ridgeways, and they are absolutely awesome. They are comfy, deal with water well as I have fallen in a couple of times with a full boot and the water stopped at the ankle and no water inside at all.

Comfort excellent as I went for the 8.5 not straight 8, so the extra width is awesome.

Durability, the edges of the bottom of the boot, the sole itself, has torn a little bit from rock sliding and having more fun than I should in them...
