I love my trusty Tibets and think they are worth the hefty pric...... they have seen me through a lot of rough terrain and are very comfortable to boot ( excuse the pun!!)

@ Renebur
The 200 GTX ones looks really good
Can you get in SA? Where? R?
Like all the European boots these ones also seem really narrow which would rule it out for me.

I also have the La Sportiva Tibets. They are really worth the price to me.
Had a problem with them in the beginning, where the top of my big toe would get nailed on the bend of the toe box, but a pair of other inners sorted that out. And I have since done approx. 250km on them, and no blisters at all or anything. They are awesome and I would buy another pair anytime.

Any body got a comment about the Hitec Reiniers and I now it was said the La sportiva was the boot but I found them at bit to like a straight jacket, Mabye a bigger size will help, I tried the Hi tec and they felt more comfortable but I am worried they will not last as i hike in the Magalies burg every weekend and in the burg every time i can.
Thanks

Ok - review on Salomon Wings Gortek shoes.
I bought a pair of these in November last year. They are really light weight and seemingly solid shoes.
Summary of their life:
- 70km in: the front of the shoes began to look very worn, this issue never became an issue
- 102km in: they first met snow. They proved to not be waterproof in snow
- 190km in: their design had caused so much strain on my achilies tendon that I almost pulled out of GT. Maybe I should have known how to tie shoe laces on high ankle shoes, so maybe this one is on me, but still not nice.
- 378km in on Gypaetus Pass: I noticed a large hole in the one shoe, the rubber was beginning to come apart
After 396km and 11 months I returned them to Cape Union Mart who sent them for repairs. Today they phoned me and told me they are beyond repair, they are going to replace them.
So
to CUM for great customer service (well, pending me going in to sort it out), but
to Salomon. These shoes should not be R2200 shoes (fortunately I got them on special), their quality is really not up to scratch - they never encountered any really bad terrain (eg loose rocky ground), they never were exposed to large amounts of water, and worst of all, every time I wore them with gaiters everyone would ask me why I was hiking in takkies

Some stats on my La Sportiva Makalu boots. As you can see, no GT'S for me.
First pair - 518km vibram sole got worn down rather fast. April 1998-Oct 2005
Current pair - 302km sole still fine. Sole no longer vibrim but now 'skywalk'. (May the force be with you
)Jan 2006- present.
V. Good in the snow and grip like mad to the rock even when wet, have good edging ability as they area very stiff boot that is crampon compatible.
