I messaged Ryno on instagram and had a productive chat, I won't repost our chat because I don't have his permission, but it's possible to directly and respectfully engage on the topic I think these guys are open to feedback.

That is good to hear. Ryan is ignoring me after an initial exchange on Facebook. I don't think much more can be gained from further interaction. They clearly know some quarters are unhappy with their actions. Ryan denies they did anything untoward and denied being anywhere other than the "Afriski route" with bikes. The damage is done. The social media images and word of mouth mill will do the rest to lure more riders into this area where its a free for all. Considering the Afriski activities in the area it is actually strange that riding further South has only started now.
Not sure what I want from R&R? An apology, a public statement (that will create more publicity and awareness)? The dodging and lying is disappointing - I would expect an "Oops, we f&*(d up. We should have known better and thanks for pointing out the errors in our ways!" kind of response.

I once caught a group (about 15!) on the lower reaches of Rockeries Pass.  Completely lost my temper with them and nearly got into a fight...! I have photos somewhere of all the damage they did.  Absolutely outrageous behavior; Leonard also got a telling off from me for allowing it.  And yes, they managed to ride straight up up the rock face at the river!

Make no mistake - on bikes like these in capable hands Rockeries and Mweni pass is scalable from below. It is only a matter of time. Many of my friends often ride the area from the cultural centre (where they are warmly welcomed and hosted). Every ride report gets closer and closer. If Enduro riding is your thing the appeal of this area is immense - if I put my respect for the mountains and this area aside I would LOVE to tackle these passes on my bike. There is an annual event (Impi) that has now been hosted in the general area for 5 years or so that exposes it more and more. Without legislation/conservation status in place this will be an impossible fight.

I also think that people should admit their mistakes in such kinds of situations.

I am not familiar with this pass, it's exact whereabouts etc. But if it's in Drakensberg WHS and you want to report it let me know and I can forward you the details of person to speak to.
Regard.
