Hi Savana,
Welcome to VE!
I've never had a problem with leaving my care there before, neither do I know of anyone that has suffered loss at this location. As far as I know, there is no cost other than the overnight fee, so parking the car at Sentinel car park for an overnight hike is effectively free. At least, that's how it has always been, maybe somebody can advise if it has changed recently?
You could also probably leave your car at Witsieshoek Mountain resort, which is about 5km's from Sentinel car park (i.e. further away).
Note that the road to Sentinel car park from Witsieshoek can be bad at times, best undertaken in a vehicle with a bit of clearance. I have driven a Ford Ecosport up there once. The owner of the car managed to burn his clutch in the first 100m and asked me to drive it up. I have lots of 4x4 driving experience and managed to get it up without damaging the car (by the grace of God I have to add!). The lodge does offer a shuttle service to Sentinel car park, which solves the ground clearance problem.
Enjoy your hike!!!

Hello from Canada!
My girlfriend and I will be doing a ten-day North-South Grand Traverse ending on May 2nd and are trying to figure out transport from Bushman's Nek to Pietermaritzburg that day, after which we'll be catching a Greyhound to Johannesburg. We would love to catch a ride with any Vertical Endeavour members as suggested in a previous post in this thread, but would also really appreciate any other suggestions for getting from Bushman's Nek to Pietermaritzburg that day

Hi Blake,
I highly recommend using Southern Berg Shuttles. They are located in Underberg and we've used them many times before. Cedrick is very reliable and offers a reasonable price.
Enjoy your trip, the Grand Traverse is an epic experience.

I am being quoted R5000 by Cedric for a transfer from Cathedral Peak Hotel to Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge. Just want to sense check if that sounds right to you guys? Thanks a lot.

Hi Dominicchew, you can also get a quote from Wiseman on +27781685837 (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), he has always been reasonable.

Hi Dominicchew,
No, I think he is overcharing you. It's only 172km one way from CP hotel to Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge.

Hi Dominicchew,
The R5000 does seem a bit steep for that scenario but given that Cedric stays in Underberg in the South, it is understandable for him to cover his costs. A full trip from there to CP, Witsieshoek and back will be more than 800km. Might be better to try and find alternatives that are located closer to the Central/Northern Berg.
Having tried our own transport with 2 vehicles for previous trips between the North and Southern Berg we quickly realised that costs can escalate quickly and proofs to be a logistical challenge. Hence using Cedric and similar with a smile
