Interesting - what did you do about that injury?

The reason I think it is ITB is that it is sore on stairs, and at the time, it was sore when I took my leg from straight to bent, but wasn't sore if it wasn't being moved. Based on my research, that is the classic sign of an ITB strain.

Either way - definitely worth working on the ITB exercises. I have sent the details to Hobbit as well (not that he has had a problem with this) - best to avoid such an injury if possible.

A few weeks of rest took care of mine, after properly damaging it on the 80km of GT we managed to do on that attempt.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I have been doing some rather strange exercises as recommended - and will keep doing these 5 times a week as recommended in my online reading. Tried walking up and down the stairs today without any issues, and did a fast walk (no jogging) on the treadmill yesterday without any issues. Hopefully it was just something I was doing wrong on the day, or maybe aggravated by the heat and the fact that I had run out of Rehydrate. Strange that stairs were still painful on Monday, but I haven't felt any issues since Monday.

My next Berg hike is an epic insanely difficult walk up the Chain Ladders with my brother and his wife next week - so that should be a good test to see that all is back to normal. [the reference to difficulty was sarcasm, just in case it wasn't obvious]

I developed an itb injury after too much cycling in a short space of time following a long break from the sport. The foam roller sorted out the problem within about two months. I did have stop riding for a while though, as would you need to stop hiking on the leg until it is sorted. It won't heal without workouts and rest.

Hi All,

I am new to this site and been so great exploring it. I am doing the Giants Cup Trail next week and I am still battling to find a definite answer to whether there are mattresses in Mzimkhulwana Hut? Has anyone done this route recently?

I am very excited to be out in the mountains and yes I am doing it day by day with 12 friends for my birthday. Any reference where I can find updated information wold be appreciated.

Thanks

Tamin
