I've also been watching the Vulture's Retreat station data, it's now dipped to 2.5°C and looks like it is raining: lognet.saeon.ac.za:8088/HiAlt/index.html

The rain should bring the temperature down a degree or so.

Although the models seem to be chopping and changing every few hours, there does appear to be some indications of a sharp drop in temperature potentially coming to the Drakensberg this weekend. At the moment there is light snow forecast for most of the escarpment on Saturday. Temperatures may drop to around -5°C on Sunday morning, something to bear in mind for anyone planning any long weekend hiking up there.

As the event draws nearer, the levels of both snow and cold seem to be intensifying. All of this snow is forecast to fall during Saturday:

Temperatures for the escarpment on Saturday night are now ranging -6°C to -10°C!

Snow on Nkosasana on Sunday. There was plenty of snow that fell on Saturday, but had melted almost immediately.

Although there was light snow reported over a wide area, including lower lying areas like Underberg, Kokstad and Impendle, much of it disappeared very quickly.

Here is the 1 May satellite image showing what snow remained (in red)

@JonWells, I tried turning on the radar layer on Google Earth but no snow appeared. Either I'm doing it wrong or there is none to see. I assume you just tick that box and it will show, correct? :) Thanks!

Hi AdrianT, Google Earth doesn't have that function, the file needs to be downloaded from here and opened in Google Earth.

From the link, click on "Download kmz file for Google Earth"

Thanks Jon. Just a quick question, is that a file only relevant to a given day? It does not link to the net for a live update, right?
